Vessel Major / Minor Conversion

We engineer major and minor conversions including vessel lengthening/shortening, deck cargo barge conversions, supply vessel modifications for crane or ROV support, accommodation expansions, spud leg installations, and heavy equipment seating retrofits.

We perform FEA (Finite Element Analysis) stress modeling and local deck strength calculations to evaluate bending moments and shear stresses imposed by crane or davit SWL (Safe Working Load), designing requisite underdeck pillars, webs, and stiffener reinforcements.

Critical calculations include revised lightship weight and CG estimation, updated intact and damage stability booklets, longitudinal hull girder strength analysis, tonnage recalculation, and revised freeboard/load line calculations.

Conversion designs must be submitted to the vessel's classification society (e.g., IRS, ABS, BV) and Flag State administration prior to commencing fabrication. GCS prepares structural drawings, stability calculations, and liaises directly with class plan review centers until approval is secured.
